Winchester, VA



The city of Winchester is located in the northwestern part of the Commonwealth of Virginia. The population of Winchester as of 2018 is around 30,000. A 45-block area of downtown Winchester has been designated as a National Historic District, and Old Town Winchester is located in the middle of it. The center piece of Old Town is the Loudoun Street pedestrian mall lined with an eclectic mix of boutiques, antique shops, arts and craft galleries, bars, and restaurants.

Numerous battles were fought in Winchester and the surrounding area during the Civil War. The Shenandoah Valley Civil War Museum located in the Old County Courthouse building contains over 3000 Civil War artifacts from Winchester and the surrounding area. The museum is located on the second floor, while the first floor of the Courthouse has been restored to its original condition.
