Oregon Coast Historical Railway
I was eating lunch at The Boat Fish and Chips Restaurant in Coos Bay when I happened to glance out the window at all this cool railroad stuff. Nuturally I had to check it out. It turned out to be the Oregon Coast Historical Railway Museum. This neat little museum has an outdoor display area with lots of railroad and logging equipment, and a mini-museum with photos and railroad memorabilia. The museum is located at 766 South First St. and is open Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. I toured the museum in June of 2024, and admission was free.
Cool Stuff in the Railyard
The featured attraction in the railyard is the restored 1922 Baldwin steam locomotive No. 104,
which served the region's logging industry until the 1950s. A 1927 8-ton switch engine and
Engine No. 111, a deisel switcher locomotive are on display in the railyard. There are also two
vintage cabooses, Southwern Pacific caboose No. 1134 and Burlington Northern caboose No. 11269.
There is lots of other equipment used in the Oregon logging industry as well.
