Land of the Yankee Fork State Park

Land of the Yankee Fork State Park is located 2 miles south of the town of Challis on US Hwy 93. This 521 acre state park is operated cooperatively with the U.S. Forest Service. The park's focus is Idaho's frontier mining history, especially in the area of the Yankee Fork. The Yankee Fork is a tributary of the Salmon River, and the Land of the Yankee Fork is the region along the Yankee Fork generally between the towns of Stanley and Challis. The Interpretive Center at the park has a museum, a small theater, and a gold panning station. I was there in July of 2020.

Yankee Fork Museum

The museum in the interpretive center is small but exceptional. It does a great job of covering all aspects of gold mining in the Yankee Fork area. I wish I would have had more time to spend in the museum, but as usual I was on a tight schedule.
